WELCOME! The World Institute For Extreme Beauty, LLC, welcomes you to a unique place, the beautiful Walker House (built in 1836) in historic Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
We have prepared a special experience for visitors by bathing the Walker House in beauty. The nine climate-controlled lodging rooms contain dramatic art by local artists, walnut floors, walnut furniture and picture frames handcrafted on the premises from trees harvested nearby, plush towels, and elegant bedding.
The master gardeners plant organic produce in five raised beds and nearly 300 flower plants on the grounds.
Inside, more than 100 art objects grace the walls of two art galleries, and original “Badger” caves jut out from the authentic Cornish Pub; the million dollar kitchen reflects your image on its spotless stainless steel, and Everything Wisconsin is available for purchase—super-premium Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, award-winning New Glarus micro-brewed beers, Wollersheim gold medal wines, and much more.
We welcome you to the Walker House to enjoy the beauty, the peace, and the unparalleled hospitality. We will be your family away from family and your home away from home.
Income from the enterprises covers the recurring bills and builds an endowment to perpetuate the work related to extreme beauty. No money accrues to the owners, Dan and Kathy, who volunteer their time. The enterprises illustrate a fundamental principle of extreme beauty: people reveal beauty in their brokenness when they are talking, walking, eating, and so on. In other words, they show their real beauty when they are doing things, because activity reveals talent and individual talent is always beautiful. (Click here for five real examples.)

“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace….”
“Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light.”
THE GIVING SPIRIT
“It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.”
“I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy. I woke and I saw that life is all service. I served and I saw that service is joy.”

During the first 10 years of their married life, Kathy and Dan lived in 12 different apartments in 3 different countries. They also traveled throughout the Western world. They understand the exhilaration of travel, the rapid succession of exciting new places, peoples, and cultures. They also know travel requires that family and home be left behind, leading at times to profound dislocation and alienation.
Every detail at the Walker House attempts to counter the alienation associated with travel. The extreme beauty of the landscaping, the Walker House itself, and the people inside the House serve as a “rooting” mechanism, where guests can feel so comfortable and “at home” that they grow temporary roots during their stay. Indeed, the Walker House is striving to become for guests the family away from family and the home away from home…and that is The Experience.
In their own words, guests describe their experience at the Walker House. Here are some comments that originate from the guest journals placed by the beds in the rooms.
“Had a great time. Excellent hospitality, great pancakes, and scrambled eggs! To be honest, if it’s like this all the way down to Louisiana, then we’ll be back to the U.S. sooner than later! Thank you both for your warm welcome and all the best for the future.” -M. & C. – Switzerland
My friend, Kim, and I stayed with you for one night in November the year before last. I have to tell you, it was the gift that kept on giving. Kim and I both had so much fun during our stay, but then we got to relive it over and over as we told our friends and family about our wonderful experience.” -C.M.
“Serenely quiet… Ahhh… surrounded with barn quilts and pictures – we feel right at home – lovely space. Thank you for sharing your space and talents with us. Loved those scrambled eggs, with wonderful WI cheese and sweet, beautiful garden-ripe tomatoes – great conversation at breakfast. Thank you–we will be back soon.” -M.J. & L.
“Another glorious stay here! We so enjoy coming, being here. This room is so comfy, intimate, and lovely. Mineral Point has much to offer – and Walker House is the highest.” -A. & T.L.
“Thanks so much for your hospitality, kindness and care. We are so glad we found you (and thank you for helping us find you!). We especially enjoyed getting to know this area, and your advice was much appreciated. Mineral Point is a special place. Best Success.” -E. & B. -M. & J. More
