Four reasons to have your Wedding at the Walker House

1. Beautiful and Amazing Venue

Guests rave about the beauty of the Walker House for a ton of reasons. The 2-foot-thick exterior stone walls built by Cornish masons look stately but feel warm and inviting with each stone unique in size and shape. Our rainbow gardens (over 1,000 plants and flowers) shout color from June to November, and provide the perfect backdrop for your photos. We have 3 professionally designed dining rooms featuring artwork by talented local artists. And in the Cornish Pub,  200 year-old miners’ caves mesmerize guests and entertain the kids. The spacious Banquet room holds a number of things: the world’s first walking labyrinth in a commercial dining room, a 55” TV to showcase your videos, a large wood floor and bar constructed from trees (white oak and cherry) felled 14 miles from the Walker House, and portable tables we can move after dinner so you can boogie for hours on your own dance floor. It’s not surprising that guests have called the Walker House not only “beautiful” but “amazing.”

2 . Award-Winning Food

The Food Network recently selected the Walker House Pasty as the best in the State. Other food options like Filet Mignon, Baby Back Ribs with our made-from-scratch BBQ sauce, and baked, oh-so-tender Chicken Breasts win the accolades of guests. We prepare fresh foods (and the cake, too) just for you in our 1,100 sq. ft. kitchen equipped to serve 400+ guests. Dietary restrictions? No problem. We pride ourselves in preparing delicious, nutritious food for every guest at the reception. No exceptions. So sit back, relax, and let our experienced chefs and servers deliver heralded 5-course meals that “ooh-and-aah” family and friends. Your job? Savor the moments that will last a lifetime.

3. History Begets Magic

The Walker House possesses its own unique magic. You’ll feel it when you’re here. There are fossils in the walls’ stones. Mineral Point, as the story goes, was founded when Cornish miners dug out lead ore from what became the Pub’s big cave. Abraham Lincoln was still practicing law in Illinois as masons were hoisting stones for the exterior walls of the Walker House. And over the years friendly ghosts have floated in and out of the House. We haven’t seen any, but you and your guests might entice them out of hiding for a dance or two. During your reception you’ll participate in the magic of the past and beget your own magic.

4. You Become Family

We greet you at the door – every time – because you’re part of the Walker House family now. Family exists to help its members become all they can become. That’s what we do. Through Walker House run-throughs, emails, phone calls, and more run-throughs, we help you to make your special day all it can become. That can include rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, flowers, reception and dinner, cake, dance, campfire, lodging, and next day brunch and gift opening. We’ll help you make your wedding day as perfect as it can be. Call us to get started… and to join the family. We’ll greet you at the door.

Testimonials

“We came to consider the Walker House initially for its history, beauty, and atmosphere, and to have all that and then the excellent food and service on top of that is truly remarkable! You treated us to the very best reception we could have hoped for!”

Valerie and Shane D. (Happy Couple)

“You, Dan and all your staff went above and beyond to make this such a special day for all of us. We felt like we were invited into your home and treated so warmly. Thank you all!”

Sheila B. (Mother of Bride)

“I simply wanted to express my gratitude for a lovely stay. The house is charming and I absolutely loved how it felt not like a hotel but like a getaway in a relative’s home.”

– Heidi K. (Guest at Wedding)

“Dan and Kathy made our wedding reception the best I’d ever attended. Their attention to every detail instantly put me at ease and dramatically reduced my workload. They willingly accommodated our guests’ special food requests (vegetarian, vegan, Halal, gluten free, to name a few). The Walker House was so beautiful that we hardly needed to decorate. On the big weekend, they hosted the wedding party and out of towners in their hotel rooms– making logistics much easier. On the big day, the flowers (coordinated by Walker House) were stunning. The staff helped the groom with last minute details and catered to the older and more fragile members of the wedding party. During the reception, the steaks were perfect, delicious, and served on time. Each dish was beautiful and succulent. The salad was comprised of vegetables grown locally in an organic garden. Special meals with special little dishes were served for children. The space was beautiful and we were able to dance all evening long. Children and children at heart enjoyed the “caves” in the Walker House. I could not imagine a better time!! Several months later, people still complement the reception and the amazing building and staff at the Walker House.”
